Based on inflammatory mechanisms
Based on inflammatory mechanisms
Inflammation is a normal response of the immune system to harmful stimuli of infectious, lesional or metabolic origins. The acute inflammatory response is benefidal for the organism to remove the injurious stimuli. In healthy subjects, inflammation is self-limited and resolved through an effective arrest program (resolution of inflammation) that initiates the resolution of the tissue structure and function.
Innate immune cells are key orchestrators of the initiation, maintenance, and resolution of inflammation and tissue repair. In inflammation, innate immune cells have major functions, such as antigen presentation, phagocytosis, and immuno-moduladon through production of various pro / anti – inflammatory mediators.
An imbalance between the signals produced by innate immune cells leaves inflammation unchecked, resulting in inflammatory-related disorders.
