This is a 1979-vintage Sansui AM/FM Stereo Tuner TU-417 that is completely tested, fully functional and complete. The original 1979 MSRP was $275, which is the equivalent of $1,194 in 2024. The TU-417 tuner would pair very well with a Sansui AU-317, AU-417 or AU-717 integrated amplifier. This is what FMTunerInfo had to say about the TU-417: “The relatively scarce TU-417 has 3 gangs and 2 filters and is known for good sound and decent DX performance (for the price) when modified. Even though it is larger than the TU-217 and TU-317, the TU-417’s circuitry is more similar to those tuners than it is to the TU-517 and TU-717. Like its little brothers, the TU-417 is easy to modify for even better sound quality as described on the DIY Mods page” Dimensions: 16.9” W, 6.6” H, 15.9” D, 18.25 lbs. This TU-417 is serial #848120453. I am passionate about vintage tuners. I take the time to test every single function of the tuner by connecting it to a good FM antenna and also connecting it to an integrated amplifier and speakers. Doing this lets me listen to how the tuner receives stations and actually sounds. I check every single switch, control and button to confirm that they work as intended. After the initial assessment, I thoroughly clean the outside and inside of the tuner and clean every potentiometer and switch with CRC QD Electronic cleaner. This particular TU-417 is in excellent shape cosmetically, as you can see from the photos. It is very clean inside. Functionally, all of the meters, bulbs, buttons and switches work as designed. The FM tuning indicator dial is properly aligned. Most importantly, it tunes FM stations very well and sounds great. It is hard to believe that it is roughly 45 years old! The tuner will be wrapped with plastic cling wrap and multiple layers of bubble wrap, before being placed into a sturdy box with appropriate packing material. I don’t overcharge for shipping.
